Easy puppy training

I’m a dog lover, healthy pet nut and currently owned by two Shelties.  I say I’m owned by my dogs because I have to admit I slacked on training them.  The oldest dog came from the Humane Society at 9 months old.  He came to us with chewing problems and would eat toys, the legs of chairs, the window frames etc.

"shetland I have trained dogs and enjoyed it until I adopted the second Sheltie and the stress of two dogs that were at times crazy became more than I could stand.

My 18-year-old Sheltie - Tara - crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge on March 4, 2008Tara was my titled obedience star dog.  She loved our show dog training and actually trained me when we were performing and working in a dog obedience group of other dog lovers.

My two current dogs love each other but hate other dogs and fear most people.  It’s not their fault; they are cooped up too many hours a day and have too much energy for their own good.  They bark at everything and nothing!  They are under my feet all the time and a real pain lots of time.  I know some of the best dog trainers San Diego could do wonders with these two wild dogs.  But I also know with my years of dog shows and working with some of the top dog trainer classes I could have well behaved pets.

Ok, I wrote that in present tense, I should have stated that it used to be like that.   I started getting the dogs out for runs several times a day and made  sure they visited other dogs and people a couple of times a week.  We did lots of training around other dogs and people.  I researched local folks that had dog training certification and kennels that had schools for dog trainers.  I used food as rewards for them when they didn’t bark or go nuts over new things or new people.

My dogs are well trained and happy now.  A trained dog really is a happy dog.  Dogs need us to help them know what is acceptable.  Dogs want to please us so we have to teach them how to be a member of our family.

Dog’s are happy when trained so start canine obedience training with your puppy early, with basic commands like sit, stay, come and down.  Use a certified dog trainer for the best results.  Also look for someone experienced with dog obedience puppy training.  Puppies need a lot more understanding when training, you have to take it slow and give your pup time to figure out what you want them to do.

I will help you find resources to puppy trainers.  Self help dog training tapes are also very good tools, especially when you have dogs that don’t like anything outside of their yard, like mine were!

Let your dog be a happy well trained member of your family and maybe add some advanced obedience like agility or fun things like rally training.  Even the family kids can train dogs so make it a family joy.  It is easy to find dog obedience trainers in your area no matter where you live.

I actually did some formal dog trainer training but only used it for my own dogs and when my friends were looking for local dog trainer schools.  The main reason I didn’t make a business with teaching dog obedience puppy training was I couldn’t get enough information about dog trainers insurance and that was a real concern for me.

If you are interested in working with dogs I would recommend a career dog training but only if you love dogs and get along well with people.  You will be teaching the dog’s owners how to train their puppy so you must have good people skills.
